
Bishop Mary E. Pope was born in Anniston, Alabama in 1939. Bishop Pope married her husband, Bishop Robert L. Pope in 1968. As a military family they traveled from duty station to duty station. At each duty station Bishop Pope participated in ministry service. Bishop Robert Pope was sent to do a tour of duty at Fort Riley, Kansas where he eventually retired. Bishop Pope’s desire to do the will of God, led her to open Church of Deliverance in 1982. The church began with 8 members in the home of one of the members. After 29 years, the church is still growing strong. Bishop Pope is a pioneer, forging the way for women in ministry. She has been awarded several degrees: a Bachelor’s of Theology Degree and Master’s Degree in Religious Education, and the Doctor of Philosophy with the Major of Religious Education. Bishop Mary E. Pope is a mother & great grandmother. She has mentored many men and women in ministry and continues to forge a path as a Moses for this age.
